A winner never quits -Part 1

The current financial downturn affected families in various ways. For most families where both partners worked outside of the home or had a business, the sudden loss of a source of income, brought about untold stress and panic. The ability to rise above the situation takes determination and communication. This is Miriam’s story.
Miriam and her husband, Artie both worked very hard and were very committed to their career. Though they lived in the same house, you could count how many words they spoke to each other in an entire week on one hand. They were both high flyers and had the lifestyle that matched it. Therefore, when colleagues were being laid off, neither Miriam nor Artie, thought it could happen to them. They were first among equals and that was being modest.
It was a bright summer morning, a beautiful Monday; birds were chirping in the trees, the skies were clear and blue. The summer breeze was so peaceful and filled with promise. This was a day when dreams were sure to come true or so it seemed.
Miriam was excited for some reason, she could not place her finger on it, but she knew her life was going to change today. Her steps were confident as she walked into her office where she worked as a company secretary, exchanged pleasantries with her colleagues, had her morning coffee and settled down to work. She was on the phone when her boss came in carrying a box of something that looked like doughnuts. She thought to herself,
“What on earth is going on here, he never brings me anything but files?”
